Delegate Selection

  • Prepare to present a list of potential National Assembly delegates to the Delegate Selection Committee at a meeting to be held no later than two months prior to the National General Assembly.

  • Conduct an annual test of the Texas Emergency Nurses’ Association emergency preparedness plan.
  • Submit a revised memorandum of authorization for State (DSHS) and Texas ENA approval.
  • Facilitate and encourage pre-registration of healthcare professionals using the state approved system
  • Explore increased communication methods through currently available technology
  • Disseminate education on the NIMS in-service for each chapter and possible development of nurse strike team leader education.
  • Refine Texas ENA nurse disaster team concepts in anticipation of MOU approval
  • Establish an emergency preparedness database including sample disaster drills for members use and sample standard operating procedures.

ENPC / Pediatrics

  • Advocate for pediatric issues through the following venues:Develop resources and contact for pediatric disaster management
    • Participate in Texas EMS and Acute Care Foundation Pediatric Division
    • Encourage members to obtain Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse certification
    • Assist in the development of medication safety scenarios
  • Monitor ENPC provider courses as problems are identified
  • Increase participation by members in ENPC courses and the pediatric committee

  • Identify pending legislation potentially affecting emergency nursing, emergency health care, and emergency medical services at the state and national levels through the following mechanisms:
    • Written and verbal communication with the Texas Nurses Association.
    • Triage to appropriate committees the mailing from government agencies that promulgate regulations affecting emergency nursing, emergency health care, and emergency medical services.
    • Maintain liaison with ENA’s National Committee on Government Affairs.
  • Coordinate lobbying efforts for the organization. Assign members as appropriate.
  • Prepare legislative summaries for review at each meeting.
  • Notifying members of new pending legislation prior to committee meetings.
  • Train new committee members in the state and federal legislative processes.
  • Implement when needed the state telephone tree for dissemination of information.
  • Keep the president informed of legislative issues in a timely manner.
  • Disseminate government affairs information to local chapter members in a timely manner.
  • Obtain copies of pertinent pending legislation.
  • Actively lobby legislator or government agencies on TEXAS ENA positions on legislation and regulations.

NEW CDC STUDY: Restraint Use and Motor Vehicle Occupant Death Rates Among Children Aged 0-12 Years: Infographics  I  Study

The Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, with funding from the US. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention have released the following information.

The CDC Vital Signs monthly report was launched in 2010. It includes a MMWR Early Release, a graphic fact sheet and website, a media release, and social media tools. Most of the materials are available in English and Spanish. Vital Signs is released the first Tuesday of every month. Issues include colorectal and breast cancer screening, obesity, alcohol and tobacco use, HIV testing, motor vehicle safety, cardiovascular disease, teen pregnancy and healthcare-associated infections, food-borne disease and more.
